LCD or LED TV?
Most people are getting confused about LED and LCD
TV. The market named the new type of TV screen as LED to differentiate it from the traditional LCD.
LED stands for Light-emitting-diode. It doesn’t refer to the type of TV but the technology to help support lighting at the back of TV screen or called as backlight. LCD stands for Liquid-crystal display which refers to the type of its technology and monitor. Normally, LCD uses the backlight technique as CCFL (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp) to provide clearness and brightness of the picture. Instead, LED TV substitutes CCFL with LED technology to display the clearer picture due to its dynamic contrast quality that can show the real white and dark colors of the image.
How LED is better than LCD TV?
LED not only has the higher contrast ratio, its screen is also thinner than the LCD one. Next, LED TV is natural safe as it doesn’t apply CCFL which contains mercury. It additionally uses the power effectively. The most important thing is that its lifetime is 2 times longer than LCD TV. However, LED TV is much more expensive than the LCD one. The manufacturer claimed that the high price is due to the thinner screen surface and high contrast ratio empowered by the high technology of LED backlight. Furthermore, LED TV is more valued with the technology of 240Hz that excellently shows high resolution of the object movement smoothly and clearly.
Considering to the properties, it seems that LED TV is the best choice and worth to invest in, especially for its quality. Though it is pricey, its lifetime is much longer. After all, if you decide to buy LED TV, always opt for the one with Local dimming that can allow the LED on the black side to be off and the LED on the white side to be lit (it is useless to back up backlight for the black side pixels). With this method, it not only increases the rate of contrast ratio, but also helps save the power as well.
