LCD TV Buying Guide
When people run to the thought of changing their fading-old TVs, they seem to change to the high-tech LCD TV which processes a higher resolution format than the earlier ones. So before making a decision, just look for the elements below to help you better consider how you can wisely choose the perfect one.
1. LCD TV Screen Size – Thing you should first consider is the TV screen size. Normally, the larger screen is more expensive but people seem to like it better as it is really distinctive and cool when located in the living room. Next is to consider about the room size. The TV set should be suitable for the room size and placed at appropriate viewing distance. Below is the viewing distance that is relative to the screen that helps you be more comfortable when watching.
Screen Size (Inch) Viewing Distance (Foot)
20-27 2.5-5
32-37 6-8
42-46 10-14
50 up 12-16
2. Viewing Angles – The previous LCD TV set can be viewed straight-on. If you view from another side, the picture degradation can occur. But LCD TV now has many angles that you can view from different sides. Before buying, just try to view from different positions to check if the picture quality is fine.
3. Motion Response Time – This spec represents the amount of time it takes to display the picture. The less it has, the better function it is. This Motion Response Time is abbreviated as ms (milliseconds). If you always watch sport programs, it is better that you choose LCD TV that has a response time of 8ms or lower.
4. Contrast Ratio – it is the rate of light intensities of the whitest and darkest colors of the image. The more ratios it has, the better it is. Thought it’s hard to measure this contrast ratio, it is easier that you just measure with your eyes, choosing the one with clearly bright colors.
5. Brightness – The brightness rating of the screen should not be lower than 250 cm/m2. At average, it should be at 300 cm/m2 and higher. The more brightness rating it has, the better you can watch it clearly, especially when you see a movie or play games.
6. HD Ready Vs Full HD – LCD TV now can support many types of HDTV, high-definition TV, which presents high resolution so that you can see the image on the screen clearly. But it is always a confused point of HDTV types of HD Ready and Full HD. HD Ready is a HDTV set that is capable of accepting HD signals but not at full resolution, just 720p-1080i, while Full HD is a HDTV one that accepts HD signals and displays full resolution at 1080p or 1920×1080 pixels progressive scan. LCD TV that supports Full HD is quite expensive and if you want one, just make sure that you have DVD and Blu-ray Players with high resolution or it’s useless. However, you might choose the one with Full HD to support your PS3 and Xbox 360 Games.
7. Connection – The LCD TV you choose should have DVD components, PC, and HDMI inputs for the connection of HD sources.
8. Sound System – if you already have the Home Theatre at home, just look for this function of LCD TV with Dolby Pro Logic II that is able to make the transition to true discrete 5.1-channel audio with matrix surround sound through stereo infrastructure.
Hope now you can enjoy and wisely choose the right LCD TV for your home.
